Ellen Bilbrough Shoffner of Denton, MD died Tuesday, November 30, 2004 at the Peninsula General Hospital in Salisbury, MD. She was 89. Born in Greensboro, MD. Mrs. Shoffner was the daughter of. the late Charles H. Bilbrough and Elizabeth Ellen Shockley Bilbrough.
The Shoffners were married in 1948. She worked as a secretary from 1934 until 1959 at the Federal Works Administration in Washington, D.C., at the University of Denver Social Services Foundation, at the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, and at the Franklin Institute Research Laboratories before retiring. The Shoffners moved to Denton from Oswego, NY in 1984. They became attenders of Third Haven Meeting. She is survived by her husband, John D. Shoffner of Demton and was predeceased by a brother, Robert J, “Lanky” Bilbrough.
The Memorial Service for Ellen Shoffner, was December 11, 2004 attended by friends and family. The clerk read the first Psalm, a favorite text of Ellen’s, at John’s request. Many members of meeting as well as the Shoffners’ friends and relatives received warm words of appreciation given by John Shoffner at the close of the meeting. Ellen was a long time Attender of Third Haven Friends. This service was followed by a gathering in the Common Room where John Shoffner greeted those who attended.
