Ginger Page Howell

Ginger Page Howell, formerly of Athens, died at home of cancer December 25, 2005. She was 54. Born Virginia Luise Page on Jan. 3, 1951, she was the daughter of Sara Luise Meisel Page and the late Reginald Wheeler Page, Jr.
Mrs. Howell earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in religion from Mount Holyoke College in 1972; a Master of Science degree in botany from the University of Georgia in 1986; and a Master of Landscape Architecture degree from Morgan State University in 2004. She was a member of the American Institute of Certified Planners and the American Society of Landscape Architects.
Since moving to Maryland in 1988, Mrs. Howell was employed as a land use planner and environmental consultant with RedmanJohnston & Associates in Easton; as director of the Urban Forestry Program at the Maryland Department of Natural Resources in Annapolis; and as director of the Rural Legacy program at the Eastern Shore Land Conservancy in Queenstown. At the time of her death, she was a cultural and historic preservation landscape architect with the National Park Service in Washington, D.C.
Mrs. Howell put her professional skills to work for her community. She served on the town committee overseeing undeveloped land acquired from the Resolution Trust Corporation; served on the task force that conducted a survey of housing stock in Easton; and participated in a volunteer cleanup of the Easton Rails to Trails.
She was a member of Third Haven Friends Meeting House, in Easton, where she served on the Communications and Property & Grounds Committees.
In addition to her mother, Mrs. Howell is survived by her husband of 29 years, Peter Howell; a daughter, Kate Howell of Easton; a brother, Reginald Wheeler Page III of Wilton Manors, Fla.; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
A memorial service was at Third Haven, January 7, 2006.
