Robert Matthew "Matt" Wieland

Robert Matthew Wieland passed away Tuesday, May 20, 2008. Born March 2, 1989, at Heigh Ho Farm, Pickering Creek, He was the son of Holly and Robert Wieland. Matt spent a blessed, if short, life on the Eastern Shore. He grew up in Trappe District, where he attended White Marsh Elementary and participated in county soccer. He pursued gymnastics at Chesapeake Gymnastics.
Matt spent his high school years at South Lakes High School in Reston, Va., graduating in 2007. In 2006 as a junior, Matt traveled to Mississippi to help rebuild communities devastated by Hurricane Katrina. He also got to visit his sister in southern France in spring of that same year.
After graduating from high school, Matt moved to Denver where he climbed to the top of four 14,000-foot peaks and completed a semester at the Community College of Denver. At the time of his passing, Matt worked as a groundskeeper at Harleigh Farm in Talbot County.
Matthew was full of kindness and wonder. He will be missed by his parents and his stepmother, Leigh Anne Dodge; by his brother, Jeff; sister, Chloe; stepsisters, Hannah, Maggie and Laura Small; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Wieland III, and Jim and Ruth Rawlins; cousins, aunts and uncles and all who knew him.
Memorial service was May 26, 2008, at Third Haven.
