Wilson Zavitz Vail

Wilson Zavitz Vail of Kendal Longwood retirement community, died March 15, 2000 at Mercy Suburban Hospital in Norristown, PA, following a stroke. Born in Plainfield, NJ, on January 30, 1913, he was the soon the late Clarence B. and Everett C. Vail.
He began working at the Plainfield Courier-News as a paper boy. After graduating from Plainfield High School in 1931, he took a postgraduate year at the George School in Bucks County, PA, and business management courses at Drake College in Plainfield. He then began a 44 year career at the Plainfield Courier-News. He was national advertising manager when he retired.
He was an active member of the Religious Society of Friends in the Plainfield, Easton, MD, Sarasota, FL, and Kennett Square, PA meetings. He was a longtime volunteer for the Red Cross and the American Friends Service Committee. While living in Oxford, MD he was editor of Mark V, a US Power Squadron boating publication. He enjoyed traveling with his family and playing golf. After retirement he ventured. into sailing and square dancing.
He is survived by his wife Esther; two daughters and their husbands, Louise and Peter Wickham of Cedar Rapids IA and and Judy and Carey Reece of Pocomoke City, MD. His brother Norwood Vail of Boca Raton, FL and numerous grandchildren. Memorial service was at Kendal.
